“Atman – A Journey to Self” is a collection of poetry by a young, novice poet Mashal Sahir. With youthful exuberance, she writes of the gaps between desire and fulfillment, and the lost years between dreams and disappointments. The raw and adolescent passions are sublimated into poetic ruminations, taking the reader on a trail of sophomoric love aches. There is much self-analysis and self-doubt but ultimately it all leads the poet to recognize the confessional nature of her poetry. This theme runs like a constant refrain through the book, uniting the various poems into a single narrative. The titles are more often than not self-explanatory. Mashal is clearly an incredibly talented young poetess with insights beyond her age trying to find her voice, her way. She is a prolific poetess and we hope that her poetry will be appreciated and recognized of its depth and unique style.
